Eva was born and bred in Marseille, arguably the best city of France. Despite her love of Marseille, in 2012, Eva moved to Lyon to complete her “Diplome d’Ingenieur” (equivalentto MSci) at CPE Lyon where she worked on the study of trifluoromethylthiolation reactions under the supervision of Prof. Thierry Billard. During her degree she completed a 12-month industrial placement at GSK (Stevenage) working on the synthesis of small molecule inhibitors in Epigenetics department. Eva moved to London for her final year of undergraduate studies as an Erasmus student, working under the supervision of Prof. Jim Anderson on the asymmetric synthesis of piperidines using the nitro-Mannich reaction. Once again going further up North, Eva then moved to St Andrews (Scotland) in 2018 to join the Watson group for her PhD on the total synthesis of natural products towards the development of novel herbicidal leads, with a placement at Syngenta (Bracknell). During her PhD she spent 3-month at the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung (Germany), investigating photocatalytic late-stage functionalisation under the supervision of Prof. Tobias Ritter. Since summer 2022, Eva has been working as a postdoc in the Burley group on transcriptional regulators for neurodegenerative diseases.

Personal Facts

Eva likes dancing (inside and outside the lab), going to the gym, climbing with Roderick, beating HK and Admir at squash and learning Krav maga. This French born now turned Scotswoman is the most stylish person in the group. Outside of the lab you’ll usually find Eva (or more commonly known as evacolata) eating a baguette while drinking black coffee (or hot chocolate when she’s not feeling French).
